Sefa Utaki in Chinen Nanjyo City is Ryukyu Kingdom's highest sacred site formally called Kimi-ga-take Nushi-ga-take no Ibi. Built in 15th-16th centuries during King Sho Shin era, Sefa means highest rank, meaning supreme Utaki. Within precinct replicate names of Shuri Castle worship sites, deepest Sangui area holds most sacred place Chounohana Kyo no Hana where divine tree Kuba transmits descent of creation goddess Amamikyo. From Sangui Kudaka Island sacred site is remotely worshiped. Managed by highest priestess Kikoe-Okimi who held inauguration rite Oaraori. All Utaki were forbidden to men, commoners barred beyond Ujoguchi gate, even king needed to dress as woman to proceed. Inscribed December 2000 as part of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of Ryukyu Kingdom together with Shuri Castle, designated national historic site and Okinawa prefectural scenic spot, excavated pottery and magatama important cultural properties.
