Yuki no Otani at Murodo Plateau (2,450 meters) on Tateyama, Toyama is the spring centerpiece of the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, Japan's highest pass via trolleybus. Heavy snowfall accumulates 20 meters on the lee of Mt. Tateyama where snow is cut by bulldozers and rotary blowers each April to reopen the road, creating a 500-meter corridor where walls reach 10-20 meters high. The official Snow Wall Walk event runs mid-April to mid-June, attracting 100,000 visitors walking in single file, touching icy walls marked with lines showing annual snow depth. Adjacent Murodo terminal provides restrooms, shops, and views of remaining ski area. Outside the event, bus lanes occupy the corridor. Temperature hovers near 0 C even in May; strong UV at altitude can sunburn. The site also reveals glacial polish on nearby rock.
