Kurobe Gorge, carved by the 85-kilometer Kurobe River with average flow 12.18 cubic meters per second descending from 2,900-meter source to Sea of Japan in just 85 km, gradient one of Japan's steepest, forming Japan's deepest V-shaped gorge up to 1,500 meters depth. Designated national special natural monument and scenic spot, its emerald-green water owes to abundant glacial rock flour.
