Mitsukejima Island (Mitsuke-jima) also called Mitsukejima, an uninhabited island in Takadate-cho, Suzu City, Ishikawa, 158.5 meters long, 45.3 meters max width, circumference 400 meters, top flat area 1,977.8 square meters, max elevation 27-30 meters, total registrated area 0.001147 sq km (1,147 sq meters). Geology is Neogene mudstone and diatomaceous mudstone (Iizuka diatomaceous formation) giving pale white cliffs, consisting entirely of keisodo raw material for Suzu shichirin charcoal stoves, specialty product. At low tide stepping stones appear enabling approach close, top hosts Japanese black pine grove and knotweed colonies. Designated Ishikawa natural monument and within Noto Hanto Quasi-National Park. Legend says Buddhist monk Kukai discovered it first when crossing from Sado to Noto, hence Mitsuke (found). Its battleship-like silhouette gave alias Gunkanjima. Recent collapses reduced shape: 1993 offshore quake M6.6 east side, 2019 Typhoon Hagibis removed nearby kojima islet, 2020-23 Noto swarm quakes each chipped sections, June 19 2022 M5.4 and May 5 2023 M6.5 captured by tourist cameras, January 1 2024 Noto Peninsula M7.6 caused southeast side landslide destroying protruding bow, drone survey showed 14,000 cubic meters about 20 percent of estimated 70,000 cubic meters collapsed, resulting footprint expanded 1.8 times to 6,580 sq meters due to talus spread, and vegetation white-bleached by bird droppings and seawater. Ishikawa Prefectural University plans 3D scanning for virtual Mitsukejima tourist attraction.
