About this place

Yashima is 291.9m lava plateau mesa northeast Takamatsu jutting into Seto Inland Sea 5km by 2km formed 13 to 15 million years ago when Sanuki andesite erupted over granite eroded into cliffs name roof flat top. Ancient fortress Yashimajo built 667 after Hakusukinoe and 1185 Genpei Battle Nasu no Yoichi fan shot. Designated National Historic Site Natural Monument Setonaikai National Park 1934. South Temple 84 Yashima-ji north tombs. Opened August 2022 Yashimaru visitor hub glass corridors framing sea views awards. Via Skyway Shishi-no-Reigan overlooks Takamatsu lights Inland Sea sunset blending history geology scenic drive.
