Ikitsuki Sunset Way is a 10km coastal road hugging the west coast of Ikitsuki Island in Hirado, Nagasaki, sandwiched between sheer cliffs and the East China Sea. With almost no guardrails, it delivers an open, almost foreign dynamic coastline, selected in Japan's 100 Best Scenic Drives. It famously appears in Toyota Corolla Sport TV commercials and Harley biker videos. The cobalt and emerald sea stretches endlessly, and at dusk the sun sinks straight into the horizon, bathing the road in golden light with a purifying power. Crossing Ikitsuki Ohashi Bridge from Hirado Island, you reach Roadside Station Ikitsuki Ohashi, Shiodawara Cliffs and Obae Lighthouse sequentially. Recommended to drive both directions—north to south for best ocean proximity and south to north for cliff compression—each offering double enjoyment.
